Does anyone happen to have an 186 Pin Ram laying around they aren't using anymore that they'd be willing to donate to my mother-in-law's PC that i'm moving cases? She's got one stick of 512 in there, but i'd like to get her another, but don't really want/need to buy new for it. It's an older PC and just looking to give it a little boost.
Thanks for looking through your old junk piles for some!

I guess i didn't know there were multiple types of 186 pin ram. I'll check it again tonight. i just looked up 186 pin Ram on Newegg and didn't see much different between what they offered, so i guess i thought they were all the same. I'll get you more details tonight.
Thanks for looking...

Do you mean 168 or 184? I'm not aware of a 186. 184 is original DDR which is what I'm guessing you need because I think you have to have even #'s of SDRAM sticks to even work right. I'll do some digging around here, no promises but I think I had a 2x256MB set of Corsair unused, don't know if it's in working condition or not.

She's only got two spots and she already has a stick of 512, so i wouldn't see the benefit of going 2 x 256mb.
What i did was plugged in the serial number on the ram and it came up at 186 PIN, so that's what i was going off of. I'll post more information tonight...
Is there an easy way of determining what type of RAM it is via the PC? The stick doesn't say much and doesn't even say how much RAM is actually on the stick..

The type is simply "DDR". The Max bandwidth is PC2700 (166 Mhz) If that helps at all.
She has 2 slots, one has a 512 stick in it. The processor is a Intel Celeron 320 (2.40 Ghz).
I guess, does she even need any more RAM, i just assumed that another 512 stick would help her out a little, but if her processor is going to bottleneck, then it's not worth worrying about.
Thanks for the help guys!

Have her run Task Manager in the background, then have her do the most strenuous thing she does with the computer, then go back to Task Manager and see how much RAM is being used. If it's 80% or higher memory usage, likely more RAM will be good for her, otherwise the bottlenecks elsewhere are the problem.
