So anyone who was at my last LAN noticed how when we got over a certain number of people ingame that my connection turned to crap on games likes BFBC2. The news I have at the moment is that this does not look like it is going to be fixed anytime soon, and is in fact getting MUCH worse. I have hope that Comcast will be servicing my area as they said "within 6 months" in late November, but really am not holding out much hope for that.
What I'm getting at is that although I'd love to continue to host LAN parties, at the present, and with most newer games being online only, I don't trust my internet connection to hold them here any more. I've placed 4 support calls with my ISP this week regarding how shitty it is, 3 of which have gone unanswered, the other was answered by a tech that was absolutely convinced the problems were on my side (when you can clearly see the 400ms pings & dropped packets only happen on nodes on THEIR network).
Until that changes, I am hoping others will step up and host, even if smaller parties I am fine with that. I've always said in the past that I only run the site (pretty piss poorly at that sometimes), but any fwg member hosting a party makes it an fwg party .. Anyways please support those that are looking to host if you can by attending.

I believe that job of his prevents him from doing that.

I've got my own complains on the Whole Frontier/Verizon Fios thing. I've had 3-4 DVR boxes in 3 years and Thursday the goofy thing locked while I tried to play a recorded movie. Tried to power it off with the remote, nothing. I finally unplugged it for a couple of minutes; well that wasn’t the icing on the cake... All the shows I had saved, and all the settings I programmed into were gone. Called their tech support and they said their was nothing I could do. The rather "unhelpful" and "Coarse" person said I'd had a couple of choices the standard send a tech out with a box to replace it or mail it to me and I'd set it up. I would have rather just waited for one... however I heard they had a newer model and the only way to guarantee that was to send a Tech out. So I had to have that 4 hour window wasted time deal. Shouldn’t complain too much though, they gave me 3 months of hbo, cinema, and showtime for my trouble they said, and replaced both remotes. The tech said we could keep the old ones. They just pitch them in the trash apparently... when they get back to base.
I think the real reason they gave me hbo cinemax, showtime for 2 fold, 1. The clueless fios phone rep transferred me to bill/shipping for ordering a new box with he couldn’t do. Dude had no idea why I was just dumped on him, he is the one who gave me the temp upgrade, then we jumped back on the horn for a 3 way call with another tech fios rep/ and him to get a tech ordered to come out with a specific box.???
All this just because part of it died. It still played channels. Almost makes want to go back to Comcast!

The internet thing sucks. My internet problem is because I'm cheap and don't want to spend over $20/month on it, not because the isp sucks.
As far as tv, we don't watch much so we just have ota, and that mostly works. When I had Dish, I thought they did a pretty good job, but that doesn't get you internet.

I know it's far away for you guys, but my house is open if you'd like to come here. There's room for the 4 of us plus 11 more. I've got comcast and my router is a Netgear WNDR3700. Unless someone comes early with gig switch, you guys are stuck with 10/100, but it works.

Honestly Nacelle I'd be down for it. Many of us could carpool from the Ft Wayne area so I don't see what the big deal would be.

I can't even stream low-fi audio ala last.fm right now. I have my radio on for once in my life...

If you have FiOS TV, your router is likely set up differently than mine. I actually have CAT6 running from the FiOS box in my garage to the router, instead of the customary Coax, since I only pay for internet.
That said, the point is moot anyhow...I've been working 50-60 hour weeks for a few months & those won't slow down until I have all the parts to do my upgrades anyhow. I have my entire Sandy Bridge build sitting in the office, minus the motherboard, which should be available this week. Once the Sandy Bridge is built, my current E8400 system is going to be rebuilt onto a new motherboard (old MB is flaky) for my wife. Once that's done, her Athlon 64 4000+ will be getting loaded with Linux (CentOS?) & turned into my router & file-server. Only after that point will I have time to host.
